What is Tajweed? Jun 21 2018

The word “Tajweed” means to improve, to do better.

Tajweed of the Holy Quran is the knowledge and application of the rules of recitation, so the reading of the Quran is as recited by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Mercy of Allah be upon him).

How can you learn Tajweed?

Tajweed and its importance can only be studied with a teacher. Online Quran Teachers are the best at teaching Quran with tajweed.

The same rules can be studied independently, but their correct use can only be achieved by hearing, chanting and being corrected by a qualified Quran teacher.

In the days of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), there was no need to study tajweed because they spoke with tajweed.

It was natural for them to speak with tajweed. Now, more than 14 centuries later, regional Arabic has radically changed from the classical Arabic with which the Quran was revealed, and Arabs have to study tajweed, in precisely the same way as non-Arabs.

If you want to learn Quran with Tajweed online, but you do not know where to start. We are here for you.

The basic is to find a best online Quran teacher i.e., Online Quran Teachers who will listen to you and point out the mistakes, and help you to practice the correction. You have to learn the Arabic lyrics and vowels too.

If you want to learn the Arabic language, you need to know its principles so that you can get an idea of the language to get explored. Several laws in the art of Tajweed must be understood, and they are:

Define Tajweed

Tajweed is a set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the letters with all its qualities and applying the various recitations. When reciting the Qur’an, it means giving every letter of the Qur’an its rights and dues of characteristics and observing the rules that apply to those letters in different situations. We give them their dues by observing the characteristics of each letter that are present in them some of the time and not present at other times.

Expressing each letter from the point of expression and giving those rights and duties in its features. The rights of letters are the necessary characteristics which never leave it. Duties of letters are their characteristics which are sometimes present in it and are not present for the second time.

Tajweed Founder:

The one who establishes the rules from the practical point of view is the Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him) because the Quran was revealed to him by Allah, the highest, with tajweed.

And the Angel Jibril (Peace Be Upon Him) instructed him, and he taught it to his companions, who then showed it to his followers, and so on until he came to us through these chains.

The legislators from the scientific point of view are the scholars of the Quranic sciences, such as Abu ‘Ubaid Al-Qasim bin Salaam.

Your Precept:

The knowledge of Tajweed is Fardh Kifayaah, which means that some members of the Muslim community must know it, and its application is Fardh’ain, required by all Muslims (men and women) who have the whole Quran or part of it memorized, even if it’s just a sura.

Reasons For The Tajweed Rules:

Caring for the supreme Quran and preserving it from distortion. The Arabs mixed with the non-Arabs after the expansion of Islam, and the Muslims feared that this intermingling would corrupt the Arabic language.

Then it became essential to reduce the rules that would preserve the recitation of the Quran from errors and guarantee the reader the integrity of the Quranic pronunciation.

Tajweed Principles:

The knowledge of tajweed depends on four issues:

  • Understanding the points of the utterance of letters.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics of the letters.
  • The experience of which rules change in the letters due to the order of the letters.
  • Exercise the tongue and a lot of repetition.
